Benefits of Agua de Benassal

A study by the University of Valencia helps us understand the benefits of Agua de Benassal

One of the natural landscapes of Castellón is Alt Maestrat, which extends majestically, alternating between plains, valleys, ravines, and mountains, creating an environment in its purest and wildest state.
Nature intertwines with the vestiges of past eras, which provided its history and identity, such as rock art sites, springs, farmhouses, or dry stone constructions. The region possesses numerous areas of great ecological value. These provide shelter to an extensive variety of flora and fauna. They also allow for the practice of different activities related to the environment. The municipalities of Alt Maestrat have signposted routes and numerous approved trails to enjoy great excursions on foot, by bicycle, or on horseback.

  • Due to its chemical composition, it is an oligometallic or weakly mineralized water, as its dry residue is less than 500 mg/dl. Its main components are bicarbonate and calcium, but it cannot be classified as bicarbonate water since the bicarbonate concentration does not exceed 600 mg/l. This makes it an ideal water for daily consumption and for achieving healthy hydration, even for the most sensitive groups such as pregnant women and young children.
  • It is a low-sodium water, meaning it has a low sodium content, falling below 20 mg/l, thus meeting the requirements to be recommended for the reconstitution of formula milk for infants.
  • Agua de Benassal has a negligible concentration of chlorine and other disinfectants, minimizing the risk that could arise from long-term consumption compared to tap water and other waters.
  • It has a very low concentration of nitrates and nitrites, as well as aluminum, arsenic, and other trace components that could lead to long-term toxicity or problems in pregnant women and infants.
  • Its composition is ideal for increasing blood pressure and thus protecting against renal and cardiovascular problems, as it is a very low-sodium water and also has a significant bicarbonate content—an ideal and hard-to-find composition.
  • Its high calcium content would contribute to lowering blood pressure. Therefore, its regular consumption would have very favorable effects on people with hypertension or a tendency toward high blood pressure.
  • Its optimal composition of sodium, bicarbonate, and calcium to minimize the formation of the most frequent kidney stones would prevent recurrences in susceptible individuals, protecting them against renal colic.
  • Beneficial for osteoporosis due to its high calcium intake compared to other mineral waters, as well as its basic pH; it would also have favorable effects by contributing to the minimization of bone mass loss.
  • Digestive effect due to its bicarbonate content and low sodium concentrations, as well as diuretic effects that can contribute to optimizing weight loss in slimming diets.
